Office of the Chief Fire Official
The Office of the Chief Fire Official is responsible for promoting and maintaining safe conditions for all students and employees by recommending and establishing measures to reduce or eliminate employee and student accidents, fire incidents and hazards in compliance with all local, state and federal requirements for fire prevention.
This Department administers and enforces provisions of the Florida Building Code and the Florida Fire Prevention Code that are required for plan review processing, permitting, supervision and inspection of all District building and maintenance projects. Responsibilities include enforcing State Requirements for Educational Facilities, Florida Building Code, Life Safety Code, Prevention Code and other applicable state ordinances and regulations, managing the District’s Fire Safety program and overseeing fire, casualty and sanitation inspections of building.
The office works to maintain and upgrade fire alarm devices, conduct maintenance and monitoring for water based fire protection systems, monitor security systems including burglar alarms, CCTV, and Building Access Control.

October was Fire Prevention Month and The Office of the Chief Fire Official in conjunction with local Fire Rescues gave nine Fire Prevention Presentations to: Country Hills Elementary, Miramar Elementary, Horizon Elementary, Sunshine Elementary, Wilton Manor Elementary, Cresthaven Elementary, Tropical Elementary, Manatee Bay Elementary and Walker Elementary.
2700 BCPS students were introduced to this year’s NFPA theme of “Fire Won’t Wait, Plan Your Escape.” Participants received a Home Fire Escape Plan map to take home and discuss with their families. Students also got to see what a full dressed Firefighter would look like in an emergency. Lastly, Sparky the Fire Dog showed the students some outstanding dance moves.
