Promotion

  • Promotion from 6th to 7th and 7th to 8th Grades:

    • A student must pass a minimum of four courses, two of which must be in English, mathematics, science, or social studies.

    Promotion from 8th to 9th Grade:

    • The student must successfully complete the following courses:
      • Three middle grades or higher courses in English Language Arts 
      • Three middle grades or higher courses in mathematics
      • Three middle grades or higher courses in social studies, one of these courses must be at least a one-semester civics education course
      • Three middle grades or higher courses in science
    • Student must complete a Career & Education Planning course

Grading

  • Grading for middle school courses is calculated using the formulas below. You can however, click here for an easy-to-use Final Grade Calculator for middle school courses.

    Final Grades for a Middle School Course (not including Civics): A student earns points for the letter grade achieved in each marking period as follows:

    • A = 4 points,
    • B+ = 3.1 points,
    • B = 3 points,
    • C+ = 2.1 points,
    • C = 2 points,
    • D+ =1.1 points,
    • D = 1 point,
    • F = 0 points

    A final grade for a middle school course is based upon the total number of points earned in all marking periods according to the following:

    • 14.00 or above points = A
    • 12.20 through 13.99 = B+
    • 10.00 through 12.19 = B
    • 8.20 through 9.99 = C+
    • 6.00 through 8.19 = C
    • 4.20 through 5.99 = D+
    • 4.00 through 4.19 = D
    • Below 4.00 points = F

    Final Grades for a Middle School Civics Course with a State EOC exam: A student enrolled in middle school Civics course requires the EOC assessment to constitute 30% of the final course grade.  Students will earn points for the level achieved on the EOC exam and corresponding letter grade as follows:

    • Level 4 or 5 =12 points,
    • Level 3 = 9 points,
    • Level 2 = 6 points,
    • Level 1 = 3 points

    The total marking period points from the course grade above, will convert to a new scale, according to the following:

    • A = 28 points,
    • B+ = 22.4 points,
    • B = 21 points,
    • C+ = 15.4 points,
    • C = 14 points,
    • D+ = 8.4 points,
    • D = 7 points,
    • F = 0 points

    The student’s FINAL course grade in Civics will be determined by totaling the Converted Full Year Points and EOC points according to the following:

    • A = 35.00 and above points,
    • B+ = 30.63 through 34.99 points,
    • B = 25.00 through 30.62 points,
    • C+ = 20.63 through 24.99 points,
    • C = 15.00 through 20.62 points,
    • D+ = 10.63 through 14.99 points,
    • D = 6.25 through 10.62 points,
    • F = 6.24 and below points 

    *High school grades will be assigned for any high school course taken by a middle grades student and will be counted towards the student’s high school grade point averages.

Interim Reports and Report Cards

  • Interim Reports

    • Interim reports indicate if a student is having difficulties.
    • No later than midway between marking periods, an interim report shall be sent to parents

    Report Cards

    • Report cards are issued at the end of every marking period and cover a period of approximately 45 school days. Each school determines Honor Roll criteria for students. Check with your child’s school counselor for honor roll information.
