  • Innovative Learning

    The Innovative Learning Department is an integral part of Broward County Public Schools' Learning Division within the Office of Academics, focusing on supporting and implementing innovations in teaching and learning to assist BCPS students, teachers, and administrators with transitioning to personalized learning environments. There are several units within the department: Gifted and Talented Students, Global Scholars, Instructional and Digital Materials, Instructional Technology, and Library/Media.

    Innovative Learning will be offering two summer professional learning opportunities for school and district-based staff to receive in-service points and stipends for full attendance and completion of all course requirements.

    Space is limited to 30 participants per section, so register early in LAB. Participants must attend all four days in order to receive in-service points and stipend. Participants have a choice of attending morning sections from 9 am - 12 pm Monday - Thursday or afternoon sections from I pm - 4 pm Monday - Thursday during either the weeks of June 8 - 11, June 15 - 18, July 27 - 30 OR the week of August 3 - 6.

    • Canvas for Teachers - This workshop will help develop the technology skills of instructional personnel grades K -12 to impact pedagogical practices while implementing blended and flipped learning principles into their everyday classroom teaching through the use of the Canvas Learning Management System. In a 12 - hour course delivered in four, three-hour intervals via TEAMS webinars, participants will learn how to use Canvas to deliver curriculum, manage curriculum content, and track student performance. Mastery of course content requires creation and implementation of modules for classroom usage or content-specific lesson plans using Canvas. Hours: 16

    • Microsoft Academy Participants will learn how to Office 365 applications to enhance the teaching and learning experience and promote student engagement. In a 12-hour course; delivered in four, three- hour intervals via TEAMS webinars; participants will practice, develop, and implement lessons, using Online Web Apps and OneNote applications, that will enable their students to interact with digital content, collaborate with others, and create/publish student products to demonstrate their learning. The training includes learning how to deliver and optimize Microsoft TEAMS webinars to enhance student learning and engagement. Hours: 16

Canvas Online Training Opportunity

  • Teachers can learn how to utilize the Canvas learning management system to create online courses for teaching and learning. This course will be offered online for the duration of the school year and throughout the summer. Teachers can earn in-service points and will have an Instructional Technology Facilitator working with them as they go through the coursework. It is a great way for teachers to learn about Canvas and practice creating assignments, quizzes, discussions and interactive lessons with Nearpod, Newsela, and Discovery Education (to name a few applications).
