INTERNAL BCPS REQUIREMENTS FOR DEPARTMENT/DIVISION LANDING PAGES
Overview- All department/division landing pages must include a brief description of the department/service/program (not more than 2-3 paragraphs).
- App Name should be displayed below any top-level page graphic to appear with descriptive text.
- This should be the top level item for each department/service/program (not Welcome, not Home, not the name of the department as the name of the department is at the top of the left-side column).
- This should be the first link in the left side navigation.
Contact Information
- Title: Contact Us
- Location: Top-most right sidebar
ADDITIONAL Bb GUIDELINES & RECOMMENDATIONS
Layout
- If the page contains its own Quick Links for navigation to other resources, consider removing the left-side navigation to gain additional page width.
- Balance content height vs. column layout. "Perfect" balance is not required, but "more" balance is attractive to humans and involves less scrolling:
- If the page contains multiple lists of files, use a 2 or 3 column layout to avoid long vertical lists of links ("thermometer" design).
- Try different page layouts when attempting to accommodate diverse types (icons + text) or directions (horizontal + vertical) of content.
Graphics
- Use BCPS-approved graphics to maintain cohesive branding.
- Avoid icons over 100x100 as they can convey outdated styling.
Styling / App Selection
- Apps located in right sidebar must be in Upper Case; center apps in Title Case.
- Use background shade styling to break up the page.
- Use alternate heading styling to provide visual interest within and between blocks of text.
- Use Divider app (blank space option) to provide additional spacing between vertical app stacks.
- Optional: Consider using CSS to create "spacers" between apps/regions. This will separate content without having to always use an app name
Social Media
- Feeds display best in narrower right-side sidebars.
- Use built-in social media apps to attract users.
