What if my student(s) do not take the end-of-year tests?
-
All students enrolled in a grade level or course with an associated end-of-year test(s) are expected to take the tests. The tests are administered at the school. Therefore, even students that have been engaged in eLearning will be expected to be on campus on the day(s) that their grade or course is scheduled to be given the test. Students that miss the scheudled day will be contacted by the school to schedule to a test make-up date and time.
The consequences for not taking the tests vary by test type and grade level. These consequences are outlined below from the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) on FSA & EOC document.
.
FAQ#15. What if my student does not take a State assessment exam at all this school year?
<The answer to this question depends on the grade level or course(s) of the student.>
- For students in Grade 3, the absence of an FSA ELA score will result in “Good Cause” criteria being applied to determine if the student is promoted to Grade 4 according to Florida Statute Section 1008.25(5)(b), F.S.
- For students in grades 4-8, promotion decisions will be based on SBBC policy 6000.1 (https://www.browardschools.com/progressionplan). In short, local assessments, grades and the earning of credits will determine if a student is promoted.
- Civics (Grade 7)
- Students are expected to take the Civics EOC.
- The EOC exam counts as 30% of the final course grade. Students will need to take the EOC to have that component of the grade included in final grade calculation for granting of the course credit on their transcript and included in their middle school GPA.
- Students without a Civics EOC score will receive a final grade of Incomplete, “I”, until they have a Civics EOC score.
For students enrolled in high school credit courses, the impact varies by course as described below.
- Algebra 1 EOC (Impact on course credit AND graduation eligibility.)
- Students are expected to take the Algebra 1 EOC.
- The EOC exam counts as 30% of the final course grade. Students will need to take the EOC to have that component of the grade included in final grade calculation for granting of the course credit on their transcript and included in their Grade Point Average (GPA) calculation.
- Students without an Algebra EOC score will receive a final grade of Incomplete, “I”, until they have an Algebra EOC score.
- If a student progresses to spring graduation eligibility as a senior, the 30% of the EOC can be converted to a grade of zero, “0”, and the final course average calculated. If the student passes the course, then the credit is awarded. This will impact the course grade, the student’s GPA, and the student’s class rank.
- Students must demonstrate Algebra readiness prior to graduation. Algebra readiness is demonstrated by having a score of 3, 4, or 5 on the Algebra 1 EOC or earning a sufficiently high concordance score on the Geometry EOC, SAT, ACT, PSAT/NMSQT or PERT test (the PERT test is only available as a concordant score for students who entered the 9th grade in the 2017-18 school year and prior). Students who transfer in from a non-Florida public school after having completed Algebra 1 are not required to have an FSA Algebra 1 EOC score prior to using a concordant or comparative score. More information on concordance scores can be found at http://www.fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/7764/urlt/GradRequireFSA.pdf
- Students who do not demonstrate Algebra readiness prior to graduation, either by earning a passing score on the Algebra 1 EOC exam or by a concordance method described in FAQ#15.i.5 above will not be eligible for a high school diploma.
- English 9 FSA ELA
- Students are expected to take the Grade 9 ELA FSA.
- This score is not part of the final course grade calculation.
- English 10 FSA ELA (Impact on graduation eligibility)

- Students must demonstrate ELA readiness prior to graduation. ELA readiness is demonstrated by having a score of 3, 4, or 5 on the Grade 10 ELA FSA or having a score of 1 or 2 on the Grade 10 ELA FSA and subsequently earning a sufficiently high concordance score on an SAT, ACT test. Students who transfer in from a non-Florida public school in grades 11 or 12 are not required to have an FSA ELA score prior to using a concordant score on the SAT or ACT. More information on concordance scores is at: http://www.fldoe.org/core/fileparse.php/7764/urlt/GradRequireFSA.pdf.
