Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Diversity, Prevention & Intervention (DPI) Department’s goal is to lead the change for all BCPS students in achieving lifelong academic, behavioral, social and emotional success.
This goal is achieved by providing essential services, supports and resources to all BCPS. DPI’s resources are grouped into the 6 strands of prevention: Diversity, Health and Wellness, Instructional Strategies, Substance Abuse Prevention, Violence Prevention, and Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS)/Academic & Behavioral Supports.
DPI employs culturally competent professionals specifically trained on the many subject areas that fall under the 6 strands of prevention. DPI’s professionals promote the department’s vision by providing resources and services in their areas of specialty. The services include, but are not limited to, education and training, print materials, curriculum, as well as tools for assessment, intervention and follow-up support.
Research supports the link between prevention and academic success. Schools play a critical role in delivering prevention programs while promoting academic excellence. DPI ensures BCPS achieves this by utilizing the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS.)
MTSS use a data driven tiered approach to instruction delivery that includes interventions of increasingly higher intensity, based on each student’s needs – academic, behavioral, social and emotional. Resources and interventions for the other strands of prevention (diversity, health & wellness, instructional strategies, substance abuse and violence prevention) are provided within the MTSS tiered model at the universal (Tier 1), targeted group (Tier 2), and intensive (Tier 3) levels.
Partner with DPI and ensure all your students reach their highest potential.
Research Based Efficacy
DPI implements evidence based programs and services that have been shown to effectively meet the needs of students, staff and community members. Quality research results in data driven decision making, which fundamentally underpins all of our decision making and service provision.
