2023-24 Mandatory Annual Dating Violence Prevention Policy 5010 Trainings

  • BCPS STAFF WITH PERSONNEL NUMBERS TRAINING

    All Broward County Public School (BCPS) school-based staff with personnel numbers who have students in grades 6-12 are required to complete the annual Dating Violence Prevention Policy 5010 Staff Training by the due date. It is recommended the course be taken individually, but if a principal pre-approves group completion, staff may do so with their guidance.

    THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR DUE DATES

    • School-based staff completion: All BCPS school-based staff with personnel numbers who have students in grades 6-12 must complete the mandatory course by October 31, 2023. Each course will retain one open section throughout the 2023-24 school year for new hires, employees returning from leave, etc.
    • Principal certification: BCPS principals will receive an email on November 1st with a link to electronically certify completion of all Policy 5010 mandates via KickUp. This KickUp principal certification must be completed by November 10, 2023. Principals will use LAB to track and certify staff completion. Directions for accessing completion records are in the Generating a Course Completion Report for Administrators using the Staff Dashboard instructions. 
    • District director proof of completion: By November 10, 2023, District directors will use LAB to track and confirm each Department staff’s successful completion of the training module. Directions for accessing completion records are in the Generating a Course Completion Report for Administrators using the Staff Dashboard instructions. 

    TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE MANDATORY ANNUAL TRAINING

    Individual Completion Option (most common): 

     BCPS employees with personnel numbers who are based in schools serving students in grades 6-12, will access the training by registering for the course in Learning Across Broward (LAB) and completing all course requirements in Canvas by October 31, 2023

    Follow the instructions below:

    1. On the LAB homepage, locate the Required Learning channel. Mandatory compliance course requirements are listed under the Required Learning channel for users.
    2. Register for SBBC Dating Violence Policy 23-24, Course #39140127 by clicking on the course name, then selecting any open section listed for the course. If the sections appear full, click the View All Sections button in the bottom right corner and then scroll down and to the right.
    3. Once registered, select the Courses tab located at the top of the LAB page and click on the course title in the My Courses channel.
    4. Once the course title is selected, the Canvas course will open.
    5. Log into Canvas and follow the instructions to successfully complete the course and receive credit in LAB. Take the course individually, read and listen to all the content in order, and complete the quiz and receive 100% (all questions correct, including the submission of the course acknowledgment). The quiz may be retaken until 100% is reached.
      NOTE: Use a laptop or desktop computer to take this course, not a phone or tablet. 
    6. A LAB survey is NOT REQUIRED for this course and a certificate is not generated in Canvas, but can be found in LAB on the Transcript page.
    7. Proof of course completion and a certificate will be available in each participant's LAB transcript 48 hours after successfully completing it. Staff can access their LAB transcript by logging into LAB and clicking the Transcript tab. Administrators will track completion through LAB.

    GROUP COMPLETION OPTION

    When group completion is pre-approved and preferred by a principal/department director, the administrator will follow the instructions below to ensure each participant receives credit in LAB for successfully completing their annual training requirements. The principal/supervisor will:

    1. Provide a sign-in sheet for participants and ensure all participants enter their full names and Broward personnel numbers (p#). The sign-in sheet must include the following: date, time, location, participants' full names, and Broward p#s.
    2. Access the course and project it to the group.
    3. Upon completion, 1) create an EXCEL spreadsheet only containing the name and full 8-digit Broward personnel number of each completer (P00012345), 2) label this group completion report using the following naming format “DATING VIOLENCE TRAINING 23/24 - SCHOOL NAME”, then 3) email it to Kathy.keith@browardschools.com with the subject line labeled “DATING VIOLENCE TRAINING 23/24 - SCHOOL NAME” to ensure proper routing.
    4. Participants may view the completed training on their LAB transcript within 2 weeks of the submission of the electronic sign-in sheet. 

  • CHARTER STAFF OR STAFF WITH NO PERSONNEL NUMBERS TRAINING

    All charter school staff or external staff without personnel numbers who work in schools with students in grades 6-12 are required to complete the annual Student Dating Violence Policy 5010 Staff Training by the due date. It is recommended the course be taken individually, but if a principal pre-approves group completion, staff may do so with their guidance. Charter principals shall complete all requirements by their due dates and be able to provide proof of completion upon request.

    THE 2023-24 SCHOOL YEAR DUE DATES

    • Staff course completion deadline: October 31, 2023
    • Principal proof of completion: Principals will collect all staff’s proof of completion by November 10, 2023. If the individual completion option is chosen, proof will be each staff member’s completed quiz. Staff must score 80% (4 out of 5) on the quiz and submit it to their principal. Principals will access the answer key for the quiz in the Charter HUB. Proof of completion for group training is the group sign-in sheet (see the below directions). 

    TO SUCCESSFULLY COMPLETE THE MANDATORY ANNUAL TRAINING

    Individual Completion Option (most common)

    Staff will:

    • Go to BCPS’s Eduvisionhttps://www.eduvision.tv/l?eOtttgL, download the quiz, and complete it as they read and listen to Broward County Public School’s Student Dating Violence Policy 5010 Staff Training video.
    • Check the boxes on the quiz with the correct answers and submit it (electronically or via hard copy) to their administrator/principal by October 31, 2023. Staff and principals will retain a copy for their records.
    • To successfully complete the training module, staff must score 80% (4 out of 5 correct) and sign the quiz to certify they completed the course and quiz individually.

    Group Completion Option: 

    When group completion is pre-approved and preferred by a principal, follow the instructions below to ensure each participant receives credit for successfully completing the annual training requirements.

    The principal will:

    • Provide a sign-in sheet for participants. The sign-in sheet must include the following: date, time, location, and each participant’s full name.
    • Go to https://www.eduvision.tv/l?eOtttgL and project the training video to the group.
    • Retain the original completed sign-in sheet for each staff member’s proof of completion. 

  • STUDENT TRAINING

    To meet the requirements of State laws and SBBC Teen Dating Violence Prevention Policy 5010, all students in grades 6-12 are mandated to receive this annual training by October 31, 2023. The training is designed to be one 30-45 minute projected classroom lesson and is not to be taken individually by students. Principals will create a plan to administer the training to all their students (for example, have all 1st period teachers provide it to their classes).

    DIRECTIONS FOR BCPS SCHOOLS

    • Student Training Directions: Student trainings will be provided by October 31, 2023. After having completed their staff training, instructors teaching the mandatory student training will click on the appropriate Canvas link below, log into Canvas, and access the lesson. Teachers will then project and teach the lesson to the class while using the script and then note it in their planner. It is recommended schools choose to enhance their violence prevention efforts by teaching the optional expansion lessons 1-2 weeks following the training module.
    • Principal Certification: BCPS Principals will receive an email on November 1st, 2023, with a link to electronically certify completion of all Policy 5010 mandates in KickUp. By November 10, 2023, Principals will certify how and when all students were trained.

    DIRECTIONS FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS

    • Student Training Directions: Student trainings will be completed by October 31, 2023. The training instructors will teach the mandatory student training after having completed their mandatory staff training. Click on the correct Eduvision link below, download the Teacher Script, then project and teach the video lesson to the class, while conducting discussions and activities as directed by the Teacher Script. The lesson is not to be taken individually by students and is to be entered into their teacher planner. Consider using the Booster Lesson that supports the Training Module 1-2 weeks following the training module.
    • Principal Certification: Charter principals will collect and retain proof of completion by November 10, 2023. Charter principals will determine the proof of completion method (for example, student sign-in sheets, a student survey, an implementation schedule, teacher planners, etc.) to certify how and when all students were trained.

  • PARENT/LEGAL GUARDIAN TRAINING

    Meet the parent/legal guardian requirements of SBBC Dating Violence Policy 5010 by making this training module available via multiple methods to all parents with students in grades 6-12 by October 31, 2023. All BCPS schools must have the Annual Parent Trainings Webpage on their school’s website on the "Parents" page, under the "Students & Parents" dropdown. Some additional suggested methods are to play it at a parent association meeting or to send the link home via an email or flyer.

    The parent training is the Dating Matters Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention 60-minute, interactive online training designed to help educators, youth-serving organizations, and parents understand the risk factors and warning signs associated with teen dating violence.

    DIRECTIONS FOR BCPS SCHOOLS

    • Parent Training Directions: BCPS staff and administrators go to Canvas Course #1631958 to access  the course and parent resources. The course’s direct link for community members is Dating Matters Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention: https://vetoviolence.cdc.gov/apps/datingmatters
    • Principal Certification: BCPS Principals will receive an email on November 1st, 2023, with a link to electronically certify completion of all Policy 5010 mandates in KickUp. By November 10, 2023, Principals will certify how and when the parent training was made available to all parents.

    DIRECTIONS FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS

    • Parent Training Directions: Charter staff and administrators access the course via the direct Dating Matters Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention course link: https://vetoviolence.cdc.gov/apps/datingmatters
    • Principal Certification: Charter principals will collect and retain proof of completion by November 10, 2023, to be provided upon request. Principals will be able to prove how and when the parent training was made available to all parents.

  • INVESTIGATIVE DESIGNEE TRAINING

    In accordance with Policy 5010, each school with students in grades 6-12 has a dating violence Investigative Designee (ID) who is chosen by the school Principal. The ID must be an administrator and is responsible for receiving and investigating all student dating violence reports, as well as insuring school-wide adherence to Policy requirements. This dating violence ID role is separate from the bullying prevention ID.

    Per Policy 5010, all IDs must be assigned and complete the annual dating violence prevention Investigative Designee training by October 31, 2023.

    DIRECTIONS FOR BCPS SCHOOLS

    • Investigative Designees (ID) Training Directions: By October 31, 2023, designated IDs will access the Investigative Designee Dating Violence Prevention Policy 5010 Training 2023-24 (Canvas course #1629744), log in, successfully complete the course and quiz, then provide proof of completion to their Principal.
    • Successful Completion: To successfully complete the course, IDs must read and listen to all the content and score 100% (10 out of 10) on the quiz.
    • Proof of Completion: Once successfully completed, IDs will go to the "Course Progress" page and print the screen (Ctrl P) for proof of completion. IDs will provide a copy (electronically or by hard copy) of their "Course Progress" page to the Principal and retain a copy for their records.
    • Principal Certification: BCPS Principals will receive an email on November 1st, 2023, with a link to electronically certify completion of all Policy 5010 mandates in KickUp. By November 10, 2023, Principals will certify who has been designated the school’s Policy 5010 Dating Violence ID and that the ID has provided them proof they successfully completed the ID training.

    DIRECTIONS FOR CHARTER SCHOOLS

    • Investigative Designees (ID) Training Directions: By October 31, 2023, designated IDs will go to Eduvision (https://www.eduvision.tv/l?eOtRyym), download the quiz, and successfully complete it as they read and listen to the Dating Violence Prevention Policy 5010 Investigative Designee Training video. 
    • Successful Completion: To successfully complete the course, IDs must read and listen to all the content and score 80% (8 out of 10) on the quiz.
    • Proof of Completion: Once successfully completed, IDs will provide the completed quiz to their principal and retain a copy for their records as proof of completion.
    • Principal Certification: Charter principals will collect and retain proof of completion by November 10, 2023, to be provided upon request. The proof of completion is the ID’s completed quiz. They must score 80% (8 out of 10). Principals will access the answer key for the quiz in our Charter HUB.

  • AGENT/CONSULTANT/CONTRACTOR/VENDOR/VISITOR/VOLUNTEER TRAINING

    To meet the requirements of SBBC Policy 5010, trainings are made available to agents, consultants, contractors, vendors, visitors, and volunteers on identifying, preventing, and responding to student dating violence, as well as the process for reporting incidents. While on school grounds, these adults may be responsible for the welfare of pupils and are therefore expected to know this Policy information and adhere to its behavioral standards.

    DIRECTIONS

    Agents, consultants, contractors, vendors, visitors, and volunteers who work within a BCPS site with students in grades 6-12 will follow the directions below and complete the training prior to October 31, 2023. If beginning work past this date, they will complete the training prior to working within the school.

    Agents, consultants, contractors, vendors, visitors, and volunteers will:

    Dating Matters Understanding Teen Dating Violence Online Course The 60 minute, Dating Matters Understanding Teen Dating Violence Prevention Online Course is a free, online course available to educators, school personnel, youth mentors, and others dedicated to improving teen health. In it you can follow a school administrator throughout his day as he highlights what teen dating violence is and how to prevent it through graphic novel scenarios, interactive exercises, and information gathered from leading experts.
